Accelerating Independent Oversight and Advancing the Creation of an AI Kill Switch

GovOps is being guided by an executive order to dramatically accelerate the implementation of new third-party oversight of safety and security risks in AI systems, as well as independent audits. The agency has been tasked with leading state government in accelerating independent oversight and advancing the creation of an AI kill switch. This work is just the latest when it comes to how the state is leading to strengthen AI safety for Californians and comes after the agency led efforts in adopting AI technology into state operations.

The work convenes a group of world-leading experts to provide a guide for California to reinforce and strengthen its AI safety and security laws. Proposals under consideration include requiring independent third parties to write safety plans for frontier AI companies, as well as requiring companies to develop an emergency shutoff, or “kill switch,” for frontier models.

From responsible safety guidelines to advancing workforce capabilities, GovOps continues to ensure government is keeping pace with innovation.

If you are interested in helping GovOps shape this work, read the Executive Order and take a moment to share your insights.
